Bury Council enhances health and wellbeing of local residents via online tools
Bury Council has worked with Idox’s Open Objects over the last three years to create, expand and continually evolve the Bury Directory – a comprehensive health and social care community platform for residents.
Developed to support Bury Council’s self-care agenda, the solution provides the local community with online access to information and advice relating to services, community groups and upcoming events, with additional resources suggested based on the user’s search.
The platform – which was recently shortlisted for iNetwork’s Innovative Access to Public Services award, can be accessed anonymously – essential for citizens who are apprehensive about requesting help. An online self-service engagement tool – ‘The Quality of Life Wheel’ – has also been embedded within the platform, empowering users to take control of their own health and wellbeing and create a bespoke plan with personalised goals and timescales.
By supporting self-service, the solution aims to reduce the pressure and dependency on frontline council services, while promoting healthier lifestyles and wellbeing in the community. It also facilitates early intervention, significantly reducing the likelihood of residents reaching a crisis point.
Plans are already in place to extend the Bury Directory’s functionality even further to facilitate social prescribing tools for GPs and health professionals.
