Idox Software and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have worked in partnership to pioneer an online booking system for the NHS in a bid to streamline and accelerate COVID-19 testing for frontline staff.
Working closely with Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the platform has been configured and adapted to be operational in less than a week. It is based on Idox’s Lilie Sexual Health solution which is already in use by the Trust.
The platform is enabling NHS frontline workers in London to book their appointment online, reducing the need for phone calls and bringing speed, convenience and coordination to an otherwise resource-intensive task.
Using Lilie’s SMS module, frontline staff will receive their COVID-19 test result via text message along with additional signposting information, avoiding the need for a second visit and helping staff to get back to work as quickly as possible.
Cathy Butler, Lilie Product Manager at Idox said: “This is a great example of how our technology and delivery teams can flex to meet need in a rapidly changing environment. We are delighted to be able to contribute and help the Trust manage capacity and support their frontline workers by quickly providing an efficient and reliable solution for COVID-19 testing”.
The system has been programmed to ensure staff are prompted for their NHS email address to fulfil testing requirements.
While the booking facility has been adapted for Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust specifically, there is potential for similar approaches with other NHS Trusts.
