Southend drives digital change to SEND and FIS services with Idox’s Open Objects
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council has chosen Idox’s Open Objects to deliver a new digital approach to the EHC pathway by rolling out the Education, Health and Care (EHC) Hub.
An innovative digital platform, the Hub will offer the Council a secure and collaborative way to better manage special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) processes – from initial request for an EHC assessment, through to creation of the plan itself and on to the review stage. Local authorities already using the Hub have experienced a culture change, given it promotes a new, more effective and transparent way of working.
In further support of improving SEND services, the Council will work with Open Objects to deliver a full refresh of its ‘SHIP’ website – Southend’s Information Point and Directory of Services for adults, children and families – including a new SEND Local Offer channel, detailing all information, advice and services available to Children and young people with SEND and their families in Southend.
Gary Bloom, Head of SEND at the Council said: “Our rollout of the EHC Hub will help support our SEND services, ensuring improved collaboration between all professionals involved and enhance communication with families throughout the process. Features such as mobile access and notifications will help our teams, but will also keep families and young people informed of the progress of their case and, with their own log-in, offer increased opportunities to actively contribute to co-producing the EHC plan. We are confident that this will all result in better outcomes for the children and young people.
Gary continues: “The refresh of our SHIP website and addition of the redesigned SEND Local Offer channel will provide our citizens with an essential and accessible resource detailing services throughout the borough.”
