Comhairle nan Eilean Siar improves Revenues and Benefits Service with IDOX

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is the Scottish unitary authority governing the isles of The Outer Hebrides. An established IDOX customer since 1994, the Comhairle has now extended their existing IDOX platform to include the IDOX Revenue & Benefits solution for the purposes of further increasing efficiency and improving services.
The IDOX solution integrates with the back-office administration systems to deliver a smooth, seamless user experience, and includes a wealth of customisable automated workflow management benefits.
Robert Emmott, Director of Finance and Corporate Resources, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, stated that: "In the short time the system has been live the Authority has enjoyed a number of significant quick wins including:
- A 17% reduction of office space requirements for the Revenues and Benefits Team due to removing paper based files.
- Time and cost reductions associated with staff time filing and retrieving documents.
- Associated cost reductions by eliminating the need for certain filing equipment.
- Increased speed of access for file location and associated documentation as files are held electronically in a central repository, thereby enabling all documents to be accessible to staff that are based in the Comhairle Offices on the other Islands.
- Enhanced performance information on processing times for revenues activities enabling more effective management expected to lead to further service improvements."
Overall, the improved information systems made possible using the IDOX solution have allowed the Comhairle to target resources more effectively. This has enabled the Authority, to reduce by one third, the administrative staff required to support the Revenues and Benefits Team, whilst at the same time offering an improved service internally and externally to the public.
