The Higher Education and Research Bill – what does it mean for the UK’s education sector?

Announced during the Queen’s Speech in May 2016, the Higher Education and Research Bill is the first piece of Higher Education legislation to be published in over a decade –and has caused much debate across political divides.
It had been thought that the UK Government might delay the passage of the Bill and pause its reforms, to reflect the many questions from the sector on the impact of the referendum result for higher education and research funding. However, the Government has reiterated its post-referendum approach of ‘business as usual’.
