Top down ‘devolution’ or a bold new era for local government? An update on the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill

In England, the devolution of powers to local government is a key theme of the current political landscape. Local authorities are creating partnerships, known as ‘combined authorities’, and are attempting to secure ‘devolution deals’. These deals are expected to provide regions with greater responsibility over areas such as transport, housing, and health.
This devolution of powers could bring a number of changes for Idox customers. Therefore, at Idox, we’ve decided to take look at the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill, which will provide the statutory framework for devolution. In addition, we’ll outline some of the controversial issues that have been highlighted during these early stages of the devolution process.
