Harborough District Council introduces new online services

Harborough District Council has recently extended its level of online services by purchasing the Idox Public Access and Consultee Access for Planning and Building Control solutions.
The Idox solutions will provide a significantly improved citizen experience by allowing anyone interested in the planning and/or building control process to register their e-mail address and in return be notified of planning or building regulations applications occurring within any area specified by the user.
The specific area may be any combination of postcode, distance from an address or even a polygon drawn on the maps integrated with the solution. The system will also keep users appraised of changes in the status of applications and allow the submission of comments or objections.
Idox Consultee Access solution is designed to automatically notify relevant interested parties of planned developments and provide an opportunity for bodies such as National Heritage, Utility companies, Environment Agency with the most efficient online means of providing comments on such developments.
Traditionally, the consultation process has been primarily undertaken by manually copying and posting the requisite documentation to each consultee and awaiting written comments in return.
The new solution has the potential to create significant savings in postage, time, printing and copying costs and significant costs associated with travelling to council offices to view and comment on plans.
